Empowering Growth, Cultivating Expertise:
Your Path to Excellence in Vegetation ManagementThe TVMA scholarship program recognizes outstanding students studying to become a vegetation manager at a college or university in Texas, and to promote careers that are related to vegetation management.
The scholarship recipient will be selected by a committee of TVMA members, appointed by the President, and will receive the following:
- A certificate commemorating the award
- Cash scholarship
- Invitation to attend the Annual Conference
All applicants will receive a one-year paid student membership to the TVMA, which includes a quarterly newsletter describing the association’s current and future events.
Eligibility:
At the time of application, the applicant must be an enrolled undergraduate in September directly following the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. Applicants who have previously earned a B.S., B.A. or equivalent degree are not eligible for this award.
If not a member or family member of a TVMA member the applicant must have enrolled in or accepted to an accredited Texas College or University and officially declared his/her major field of study to be in the field of or directly related to vegetation management.
If the applicant is a current member or a family member of a member of the Texas Vegetation Management Association in good standing, he or she is eligible if accepted to any accredited college or university in the United States.
Selection Criteria are as Follows:
- Scholarship (50%)
Diversity and difficulty of course work taken, grade point average, significant honors, awards and achievements, and membership to honor societies. - Leadership and Extracurricular Activities (25%)
Participation in recognized clubs and organizations, elected offices, committees, projects and honors/awards for leadership and extracurricular activities. - Personal Traits (25%)
Evidence of good personal traits such as character, ethics, dependability, innovation and a strong work ethic. A particular emphasis will be placed on communication skills. The applicant should include information about work experiences, honors, awards or activities that reflect personal traits, and letters of personal and scholastic reference from employers, professors or academic advisors.
Application:
The completed application form, accompanied with a current official transcript, brief resume that addresses the selection criteria, 3 one-page letters of reference and a personal photograph must be submitted to the chairman of the TVMA Scholarship Committee by the 7th of April in the year the scholarship is awarded.
