October 28, 2003

President Anne Beard  convened the business meeting at 12:15 pm, October 28, 2003.  After determining that a quorum was present, President Beard the report of the nominating committee was heard.   

The following TVMA officers and board of directors were recommended by the nominating committee to serve during the upcoming 2003-2004 conference year

            Vice President – David Wall

            Secretary-Editor – Paul Northcutt

            Treasurer – Myron Rabalais

            Director At Large (2006) – George Pylant III

            Director City/County – Brent Jones

            Director City/County/State – Steve Prather

 After each nomination was read, President Beard opened the floor for additional nominations.  For each nominated officer and director, a motion from the floor was made, seconded and passed by the membership, that the nominations cease, and that the individual be elected by acclimation.  The slate of officers and Board Members as recommended by the nominating committee were elected.

 Ron Held provided an update on the tax exempt status.  Ron advised that in order to secure the final tax exempt approval from the IRS, that the Association needed to re-charter under a new name.  It was moved, seconded and approved by the membership that the TVMA re-charter under the name of the Texas Vegetation Management Education Association (TVMEA), in order to satisfy the tax-exempt requirements of the IRS,  but continue doing business as the TVMA. 

David Wall announced the 1st Annual TVMA Lifetime Achievement Award to the membership, explained the purpose of the award, and advised the membership that Mr. Jim Thrash, formerly of DuPont Vegetation Management, was the recipient of the 2003 TVMA Lifetime Achievement Award.  Mr. Thrash was presented with an engraved plaque commemorating the occasion.

 President Anne Beard passed the gavel to President-elect Steve White.  Steve thanked Anne for all the outstanding efforts on behalf of the Association, and presented Anne with an engraved plaque in token of the Association’s appreciation at her efforts.

 There being no further business, President-Elect White closed the business meeting of the 2003 Annual Conference in Arlington, TX at 12:45 pm.
