TVMA ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2004

HOLIDAY INN RIVERWALK, SAN ANTONIO, TX

 

After hearing an outstanding presentation from Bryan Dodge, and determining that a quorum was present, President Steve White opened the annual Business Meeting at 1:30 pm. 

 

The 2004 Conference Committee including David Wall, Don Telge, Paul Northcutt, James Koenig, Michelle McAffee, Brent Jones, Craig Johnson, Rob Brooks, Steve Prather, Buddy Hudson and Rick Bennett were recognized for their outstanding job.

 

The 2004 Corporate Sponsors were recognized.  Receiving plaques were two Platinum Sponsors, (LCRA, and Alligare, LLC,) and one Silver Sponsor (BASF).  Receiving certificates of appreciation were five Bronze Sponsors (DuPont Vegetation Management, Davey Tree, Dow AgroSciences, UAP Timberland and TNT Training.)

 

Davey Tree was recognized as sponsoring the 2004 Scholarship Golf Tournament, and LCRA and Dow AgroSciences were recognized as sponsoring the 2004 Scholarship Skeet Tournament. 

 

Rob Brooks, TVMA Scholarship Committee Chair, provided an overview of the TVMA scholarship program and announced the four 2004 TVMA Scholarship Winners.  The winning students, each receiving a check of $1,000 were:  (1) Angela Reid, Texas Tech University; (2) April Thomas, Stephen F. Austin, (3) Gary Harris, Tarleton State, and (4) Jewel Arthur, West Texas A&M.

 

David Wall, chair of the Awards Committee, provided an overview of the TVMA Lifetime Achievement Award and announced that Bill Held of Houston Spraying & Supply Company (SprayCo) was our 2004 TVMA Lifetime Achievement Award winner.  David provided a brief overview of Bill’s outstanding career and contributions to the vegetation management industry in Texas.  Bill recently passed away, but accepting the award in Bill’s memory was his son Ron Held.

 

The 2003-2004 Officers and Board of Directors were introduced and thanked for their efforts.

 

Myron Rabalais provided the financial overview of the Association. 

 

A discussion on honorary members was held and it was explained that our TVMA By-Laws permitted the election of honorary members by the membership.  IT WAS MOVED, SECONDED AND APPROVED BY THE MEMBERSHIP THAT THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS BE ELECTED AS HONORARY MEMBERS:  (1) JIM THRASH; (2) BILL HELD; (3) DON RENCHIE; AND (4) MARY KETCHERSID.

 

The proposed TVMA By-Laws as revised and approved by the Board of Directors on June 14, 2004, were presented to the membership.  A MOTION WAS MADE, SECONDED AND APPROVED BY THE MEMBERSHIP TO ADOPT THE REVISED TVMA BY-LAWS.

 

The candidates for the office of 2004-2005 Vice President were presented to the membership.  Both candidates made remarks to the membership.  AFTER COUNTING THE BALLOTS FOR VICE PRESIDENT, RAY ERWIN WAS ELECTED AS 2004-2005 VICE PRESIDENT.

 

The candidates for Board of Directors (At-Large) were presented to the membership.  AFTER COUNTING THE BALLOTS, RICK BENNETT WAS ELECTED AS THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR, AT-LARGE POSITION, THROUGH 2007.

 

The candidates for Board of Directors (Contractor) were presented to the membership.  AFTER COUNTING THE BALLOTS, HOWARD PIERSON WAS ELECTED AS THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR, CONTRACTOR POSITION, THROUGH 2007.

 

The candidates for Board of Directors (Utility) were presented to the membership.  AFTER COUNTING THE BALLOTS, JIM CRUSER WAS ELECTED AS THE BOARD OF DIRECTOR, UTILITY POSITION, THROUGH 2007.

 

President Steve White thanked the membership for the honor of serving as President during 2003-2004, then turned the meeting over to President-Elect David Wall.

 

President-Elect Wall thanked President Steve White and presented Steve with a plaque of appreciation for his guidance and leadership. 

 

There being no further business, A MOTION WAS MADE, SECONDED AND APPROVED BY THE MEMBERSHIP TO ADJOURN.
